POSITION SUMMARY In your function as Junior Systems and Network Engineer within the EMEA Infrastructure Team, you will assist in the proactive contribution and ongoing support and maintenance of the operational environment (servers, operating systems, network, and end-user equipment). You support a variety of hardware and software and ensure that the performance and availability of the IT Infrastructure is maintained at the highest standards at all times. You integrate new environments from acquisitions and manage the international WAN and LAN. RESPONSIBILITIES Within the EMEA infrastructure and together with your colleagues: You manage data center inventories related to systems, space, and requests for moves, additions, and changes of hardware. You ensure that the environment is updated at all times (implementing patches, and service packs …). You assist in the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and monitoring of our enterprise storage and backup systems You install and configure all new hardware, systems, and software You document problems and resolutions for future reference. You are responsible for knowledge transfer to other system/network engineers. You create procedures and keep documentation up to date. You will assist in infrastructure-related projects like the integration of data centers, the improvement and extension of the complete infrastructure in terms of functionality and technology. You will assist in server and network-related project management activities to support all lines of business. You monitor system performance and implement performance tuning. You are willing to work outside normal business hours if needed (on-call team). EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE You have a (higher) degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or similar,, or equivalent level by experience. TECHNICAL SKILLS SET You have a broad knowledge of ICT, more specifically: General Knowledge Basic knowledge of managing server, network and datacenter IT infrastructure environments Basic knowledge of networks, wide area networks, VPN solutions, switches/router configurations Basic knowledge of server hardware, server operating systems, and virtualization technologies Understanding of ITIL concepts Descartes will help the Junior candidate to learn on the job and build up extensive experience, however, knowledge or experience on any of the following is considered an asset : Pure Storage or equivalent SAN technologies Backup systems: Cohesity or equivalent VMware products, VMware vSphere, VMware ESXi Networking : Cisco, Juniper Networking protocols Windows Server Family OS Linux OS: Oracle Enterprise Linux, Rocky Linux SKILLS AND ATTITUDES You can work independently and perform well under pressure. You are analytical thinker and have excellent technical and problem solving skills. You have excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing to internal and external contacts. You are a real team player, always customer-oriented with focus on quality. You are open to working in an international team, including occasional travel. You are results driven. You are willing to learn new concepts, products, and technologies. LANGUAGES You are fluent in verbal and written Dutch and English.
